Critical Texts
Hair Dyes Can Promote Cancer
New Haven - women who have colored their hair regularly for at least 24 years, have a higher risk in developing non-Hodgkin lymphoma. U.S. researchers studied 1,300 women on this subject. The greatest risk were women who used very dark permanent hair dyes for more than 25 years. The scientists suspect, however, that the risk is slightly lower with today's products, as these contain less carcinogens than before.

Unhealthy Farmed Salmon
Farmed salmon are ten times more contaminated with environmental toxins than wild salmon. The American scientists from the universities of Michigan, Indiana and New York have discovered this. They examined 700 samples of farmed and wild salmon from around the world. The animals from fish farms were contaminated primarily with organic chlorine compounds. Many of the detected chemicals such as dioxins and the pesticide DDT are strongly suspected of attacking the human immune system and cause cancer. The substances were used in the past by the industry in large quantities. They accumulate in the fatty tissue of the fish. They are especially abundant in farmed salmon, because they have been fed with concentrated fish oil and fishmeal. The highest loads have been recorded on salmon farms from Scotland and the Faroe Islands. Researchers recommend a maximum of 55 grams of farmed salmon per month. This is about half a serving.
